What are the personalities of a dauchshund and a greyhound?
Q. I might be getting one of these dogs from the local no-kill pound, and I want to compare these personalities so I know which would make the best pet.

A. I had a wonderful Greyhound. She lived fourteen years. She was a retired track dog. She had some problems in the first year or two, but she overcame all of them. She was a great dog and I miss her to this day. I was a friend of someone who had two dachshunds. Both were wonderful little dogs. She did not have small children though. One was particularly good at going hiking with her and her two German Shepherds. He was a great little dog. Her other dachshund was always running off on her. She could not take that one hiking without a problem. I would take a greyhound over a dachshund anyday, but of course I did not own one. But I can say that over the dozens of dogs I have owned in my lifetime, my Annie the greyhound and Ginger, a… [cont.]

How come I switch personalities around different people?
Q. I usually switch personalities when around different people... [I.E. - I'll hang out one friend and feel very upbeat carefree, and when around another friend I could feel dull and find myself disliking people around me, etc...] Hmm.

A. Most people show a different 'face' to different people. It seems to be a basic instinct with humans to project what we think other people would like to see in us .

How do people judge the personalities of attractive people?
Q. I heard that people generally assume that people who are "obviously attractive" have bland personalities. This of course is before people actually get to know them. Do you feel this way? Why or why not? I'll answer, too (for once). I will say that when I see people who I believe society considers "obviously attractive" my first assumption is that they're more outgoing and extroverted, which may or may not be a good thing depending on my mood. Discuss.

A. I'm guilty of this assumption, and to be honest, in most cases I'm right. They tend to be more self-centered than most, and their values are different from mine. Yeah they can be charismatic and social, but it still says nothing about their true personality. Although, I try to veer from making such judgments before knowing the person.

is copying other personalities from tv or movies good or bad a disorder?
Q. Like lets say you watching a movie but there is a little girl and you start acting like her days later. You don't remember the movie or wasn't even thinking about it you just start to act like her. This happens to children a lot but what if your older?

A. I've never heard of a copying disorder but I'm open to believe it might exist. Are you sure that you or someone you know always does this or has it only happened a few times. Is the condition serious? Can hey make themselves stop copying others? (are you just worrying too much?) I wouldn't say this copying problem is bad unless is causes a serious problem (getting fired or suspended from school etc..) If the "copying condition/disorder?" thing happens for a really long time maybe it is bad that they can't stop, then yes they probably should see a therapist, psychiatrist or maybe a hypnotist. but if the person with the "copying problem" is autistic or something it might just be typical behavior.. but yeah.. even still - if the problem… [cont.]

Is it possible to have Multiple Personality Disorder but know and even monitor your multiple personalities?
Q. I act completely different around completely different groups of people. I understand this sounds usual, but I feel as if I adopt several personalities and they all have strong ethics that contradict each other. And I allow certain personalities of myself to come out during certain situations. I let out a persona that I know can handle a specific situation. Is this just a light form of MPD? If such a personality disorder existed, what would it be classified as?
Asked by nikkita* - Mon Jun 8 19:19:20 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. That's not a multiple personality disorder. A dissociative identity disorder (multiple personalities) consist of one or more personalities that may or may not be aware of each others' presence. Only one personality can be conscious at a time. They can alternate themselves to bring another personality out, but you can't really control them. I'm guessing you're just adapting to different social situations, but indecisive about your personal beliefs?

How would you create personalities for characters?
Q. Im just experimenting with a story im writing, and im wondering how do you create great personalities for characters. For example; how would you make the main character's personality stronger than the second main character and etc. ?

A. Several ways: -steal them - borrow ideas from other characters in literature -base them on real people -mix up different characters' personalities and traits... -read great & ancient works of literature and look for character archetypes (the fool, the villain, the hero, Falstaff, Romeo, whatever) and base yours off of them. -Make them up as you go along - sometimes as you write, the characters develop themselves. One thing I recommend to writers I teach is to make a sheet of paper or a file for each character - kind of like a dossier - and create all the necessary traits for the story on each one. Maybe physical characteristics, like height and weight or hair color, but also things like "likes foreign cars" or "drinks only coffee"… [cont.]

Should you get divorced because you have different personalities?
Q. We have been married 4 years. He is very positive and optimistic and open, I am negative and shy and have been depressed recently. We feel that our personalities just don't fit together and we ignored this when we were in the early stages of being in love. I don't know if counseling will help because I don't see a solution to this problem- we can change our personalities.

A. Counseling and possibly certain prescriptions may help you and the marriage. Being negative and depressed all the time is not only a detriment to you but to every one around you. You really need to find your self some help.
