Q. If you were on a diet and ate alot more than your BMR, would that boost your metabolism? And for how long?

A. I can tell you this, if you eat small healthy meals 4-6 times a day it wil speed up your metabolism. See, there are two things homeostasis and metbolism. Your body wants to remain at a certain weight, what it is used to( homeostasis ). Thats why small people can eat and eat, and their body's metabolism doesnt give. In order to speed up metabolism, eat small portion, up to 4-6 times a day food. Also, you can do training, like circuit training. It focuses on higher reps with faster workouts, while bulking is lower reps( 6-10 ) and a slower time to rest. See circuit training trains to speed up your heart quicker, hence speeding up adrenaline, which makes for faster metabolism. You can also just train for higher reps. If you want to bulk,… [cont.]

A. Start working out. Muscles will burn calories even if you're inactive. Also, change your eating habits. It'll help increase your metabolism, but not nearly as much as gaining muscle will.

How does the metabolism of a distant runner work?
Q. Im in track and curious to know how your metabolism changes when you start running long distances every day. How can I improve it because I feel like Im burning out.
Asked by ASU - Thu Jan 10 18:36:03 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I don't think the metabolism is so much a factor as your training is. Typically, endurance, and ultra endurance athletes are able to burn fat as a fuel at a higher exertion level than non endurance athletes. This helps, as fat is a great energy source. Any training plan, for sprinters, marathoners, weight lifters, any athletes, will naturally increase the bodies metabolism. You are expending more energy, therefore you need to take in more food, and your body learns to process it more efficiently. If you are feeling burned out, try taking a break. Do you run every day? Do you vary your workouts to do speed work, weight training, along with the distance work? Are you recovering correctly? After any workout you need to eat and drink… [cont.]

A. You won't "damage" your metabolism to the point where you can't burn off fat and lose weight... Trust me. Once you're back to eating a healthy, nutritious diet and doing exercise, it will be back to healthy condition. Healthy diet (meaning eating enough calories with nutritious food, not starving) and exercise are the 2 ingredients to boost up your metabolic rate. How long does it take for your metabolism to slow down?
Q. I am on a diet and I binged for lunch and dinner having pretty much all of my calories except for 300 which I will have for dinner...I'm supposed to have a few snacks to keep my metabolism going but I can't afford the calories! Will my metabolism slow down if I skip the snacks only for today? I don't want to store fat.

A. You should space out your calories to keep your blood sugar constant all day so that your body is burning all the time and doesn't go into starvation mode. One day will not hurt, it takes months for a metabolism to change.

What is an excellent way to boost metabolism naturally?
Q. I am in a weight loss competition and I suffer from low metabolism. I am told it is because I have a tendency to skip meals and allow myself to become dehydrated. What is a great way to help boost my metabolism?
Asked by Deleted_Life - Fri May 2 23:20:35 2008 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments

A. To up your metabolism you need to exercise every day- since it's a competition, I'd do at least 45 minutes of cardio (I do an hour) and also strength training (weight lifting). Then, as far as eating, eat breakfast, as well as a small meal every 4 hours. As was said, don't eat "white" things (simple, refined carbohydrates). Eat only whole, natural foods. Stay as far away from sugar as possible. Drink only water and green tea (be sure to swish your mouth with water, or better yet brush your teeth afterwards because tea stains your teeth). Don't eat anything within 3 hours of going to sleep at night. Godspeed!

How can you make your metabolism faster after starving for 2 weeks?
Q. The starve has already happened (my friend--not me), and she wants to start having 700 calories a day without gaining all the weight back. How can she get back to her normal metabolism?
Asked by Jane - Thu Feb 21 12:17:26 2008 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. she should start off with salads, fruits, that sort of thing but gradually build up to adding small portions of meat and other things. 700 calories isn't enough for her to eat long-term, but after a starve it shouldn't be too bad. she needs to get her body into the habit of eating again. i strongly advise you keep a close eye on her and if she starves herself again, talk to someone about it because she has a problem.

A. Drink lots of water, eat lots of protein and fiber. Exercise regularly. Try to avoid eating 3 hours before you go to sleep, cut out late night snacking. Some vitamins (B's especially) can help boost energy and some which have a thermogenic effect (Niacin) on the body and may help as well. Another vitamin to try is Chromium Picolinate (the picolinate version is easier for your body to digest.) With any thermogenics take sparingly as they may cause you to feel flushed and over heated.

A. 1. Eat about 6 small complete meals throughout the day (fish, almonds, walnuts, and lean proteins in general, plenty of raw fruits and vegetables, and complex multigrain carbohydrates) spaced out about every 2-3 hours. Consume between 1500-2500 calories a day. do not binge eat! 2. Be as active as you can; nothing to do for 10 minutes? Knockout 10 elevated push-ups. 3. Eat some spicy foods; take a decent amount of vitamin C, and drink between a half-gallon and a whole gallon of WATER a day. 4. No more soda. Ever. 5. If you do drink coffee, drink it black. 6. Do at least 35 minutes of cardio straight at least once a day, at least three times a week, more if you are not trying to put on muscle. 7. Do a large amount of full body exercises… [cont.]

Will drinking a soda for breakfast start my metabolism?
Q. I am dieting, but can't stand the thought of eating when I wake up. I have heard that while in sleep mode your metabolism slows down, and eating breakfast will speed it up again (which is why they say breakfast is the most important meal of the day). If I drink a soda or some juice, will this get my metabolism going, or do I have to actually eat something?
Asked by MO - Tue Aug 14 00:15:17 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The best way to jumpstart you metabolism is by eating something healthy in the morning! I don't like to eat when I first wake up either, but a diet soda won't give you what you are looking for! Try some cut up fruit! Cantelope, grapes, grapefruit is great because it burns calories! Even a Special K bar would be good! You have to give your body fuel to work properly! You don't have to eat a lot, but give your body something to work with! They say to eat several mini meals throughout the day to keep it going!

A. it's not easy to be thin and vice versa. u just have to eat less- a balanced diet/ check sometimes the calories of what u r eating. and exercise more. cause if it is not proportional( the exercise and the eating) it's either u'll lose fat or gain fat. be more active than what u had consumed... just be activ, don't just sit there and do nothing

How would you expect the metabolism of yeast cells on the surface of the bread to compare to the inside?
Q. In the process of baking bread, an essential ingredient is yeast. It uniformly distributed throughout the dough during mixing and kneading. Yeast is a facultative anaerobe. How would you expect the metabolism of yeast cells on the surface of the bread to compare to those in the interior? What causes bread to rise?
Asked by jAtTi pRiNcEsS - Wed Jul 9 18:09:20 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. hmmm... Assuming that yeast cells are anaerobic, which I am positive about, I am thinking that the center would have a greater metabolic rate. However, given that the center is also where there will be carbon dioxide, which the yeast repel, the center may also be slower. an experiment is needed for this question. No living thing thrives upon its own waste products. But the word facultative. hmmm. Also the gas emitted, carbon dioxide, is what causes it to rise

How long does it take for your body metabolism to get used to a diet/exercise?
Q. I have heard that if you are dieting to loose weight, once your body gets used to your diet, it adjusts itself to the calorie intake and you cannot burn anymore. [Your metabolism slows down] for e.g. If i eat 2000 calories a day and i burn 2000 calories as well. Now if i reduce it to 1500 so it means that i am burning 500 calories extra, How long does it take for my body metabolism to slow down to 1500 calories a day? Same with workout as well, If i burn 2500 calories by a particular workout, how long will it take for my metabolism to slow down and reduce the calories i burnt?

A. It can take about 2 weeks or so before it's back in full swing from fasting. During fast, in about 3 days, the body will live off fat reseves, then start catabolizing muscle tissue, but water is essential Do it gradually. It should take around two months if you follow a strict diet of eating small meals every hour. well i been on a diet for 9 days now. my calorie intake is 1000-1200 calories. i also was drinking 1 -2 gallons of water a day. i lost 12 pounds in 9 days, but i think it does cause rapid weight loss but for only a short amount of time. but it also depends how active you are. if your are really active then your body is going to need more food to burn for energy. and since you would be eating 1000-1200 calorie like i was its… [cont.]
