How is it possible that healthy people can get cancer?
Q. Despite healthy people eating the right and healthy foods with good exercise, how is it possible that these people who take good care of themselves get cancer? But isn't it suppose to be the other way around? In other words, I mean that people who don't take care of their health and eat fatty, unhealthy foods get cancer. I doesn't make sense when healthy people like healthy non-smoking, healthy people get lung cancer. I know the causes of cancer is to eat unhealthy foods and not do many healthy activities. But my question is... What is the cause of lung cancer for people who are non-smokers and take good care of their health? A. Yes. A very good friend of mine, who took great care of himself had picked up Pancreatic Cancer. He lasted only a few months. I do not have an answer, except that in spite of what we do, we can't control the hidden destiny. Smokers can live to old age, and the good die young. Another friend of mine was diagnosed with cancer and given just days to live. 25 years later, he is totally cured. He has a very unusual look at life today.

What are some healthy meals or snacks that taste really good?
Q. My brother refuses to eat healthy but is getting sick from eating only junk food. What are some meals or snacks that he'll enjoy eating (healthy meals that don't taste healthy) but are healthy? I love to cook and bake. So it can be something store bought or something that I can make.

A. When you have a healthy snack you want to make sure it truly has some benefit. I would suggest having green apples with peanut butter. It gives a sour sweet taste. I also love fruit parfait with low fat angel food cake, blueberries, strawberries, and fat free cool whip. You could also try a fruit smoothie with protein powder. I like bananas with oranges or banana with strawberry and vanilla protein powder. To replace chips I love Stacy's pita chips they are so crunchy and have that salt like normal chips. You could also try Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches or my favorite Healthy Choice 100-cal fudge bar. They actually taste like fudge! What is a healthy amount of pounds someone can lose in 3 months?
Q. Hi, I am in a wedding in 3.5 months. All of the bridesmaids and the bride are very thin and pretty. I am pretty, however, I am 4'10 and almost 170 pounds. I don't want to be the fat girl in all of the pictures. I am ready to begin P90X and start eating healthier. I would love to get down to 110 pounds, although I know that is not realistic or healthy. I want to set a healthy goal. What is the maximum amount of weight I can lose and still be healthy.

A. A healthy amount is 1- 1 1/2 no more than 2 lbs per week. You will look better not have as much loose skin or unhealthy complexion. In 3 months you could healthfully loose 10-12 lbs. If you start an exercise program also you will appear that you have lost more than you did.

What are three healthy meals that can be eaten every day to replace a regular diet?
Q. Everyone has specifics on what a healthy diet is. It all depends on age and weight but the fact of the matter is that it is no significant difference at all. What I want from this question posted are three meals that supply everything that one is supposed to have in a day. Also, I would like to add, if this mealdoes in fact supply ones need for a healthy diet, can one eat this everyday and maintain that healthy diet?

How healthy is it to skip the placebo week of birth control and start a brand new pack instead?
Q. I have been on birth control for nearly 2 years. I have been skipping the placebo week for over a year now. Instead, I just start a new pack immediately, so I am always on the pill and don't have periods. My friends always ask me if that's healthy or not. From what I know, the extra estrogen you take in birth control increases my risk of breast cancer. However, by not having periods, I am decreasing my risk of cervical cancer. Am I correct on this? Also, I have told at least 3 doctors that I do this, and have not had a single one tell me that it is unhealthy to do so. Is this healthy to do for an extended length of time? Thanks for your answers :)

A. you can do it for 3 months at a time, i've read there's no reason we need to menstruate every month but u still have tissue from uterine lining that your body wants to get rid of so its good to have a period every 4 months... the normal amount of hormones in the pill can help prevent cancers and stuff, u don't need extra, skipping periods can cause iron build up or clots so read about how to prevent it- there's a new one called seasonale that keeps u on schedule and have a period 4 times a yr

Have any healthy fish recipes that might appeal to a fish-hater?
Q. I want to try and eat fish at least once a week because I hear time and time again how healthy it is, but I can't stand that seafood taste it has. Have any healthy recipes for fish that might appeal to me? I need something that masks or minimizes that distinctive seafood flavor fish has. It's not just about the omega-3s. I need some protein variety. I'm getting tired of chicken.

A. This is funny. If you do not like that "distinctive seafood flavor", then don't eat it. You can get the omega 3 from vitamin tablets or something like cod liver oil tablets. Search omega 3 on google and see what you can find.

A. Good for you!!! Beginning a new way of healthy eating is NOT easy, I do know this, but the experts have been saying for years that Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Fruit is great and most important, but so is fiber, protein and dairy. Remember, by the time your day ends, no matter what you've eatten for your morning fuel,(within reason) it will most likely be burned off by the end of the day. I have come to love this website called Myrecipes.com, because most of the healthy, lighter cooking giants have recipes here. I've listed some of the more popular breakfast recipes here, but I would hope you could browse through some of their other recipes as well, to build your daily menu with your caloric needs. What is the healthy weight range for cats?
Q. I weighed my cat today, and she came in at 7.8 lbs. She is a Birman breed, quite a dainty little thing. Is 7.8lbs a healthy weight for my pet? What weight ranges are healthy for different sized cats, or different breeds of cat?
Asked by Danielle - Willowcats Slave - Mon Jul 21 12:39:42 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. "Healthy weight" actually has little to do with the cat's weight in pounds, and more to do with the body condition. Having never seen your individual cat, nobody can really tell you if 7.8 lbs is appropriate or not. Body condition is measured on a scale of either 1 to 5 or 1 to 9. Most veterinarians will assess your pet's body condition at every visit, and use that scale to decide how much in pounds the cat should weigh. Here's a nice little chart I found online explaining the body condition scale in more detail. This particular chart uses the 1 to 5 scale. As always, if you have further questions, you can come back here, or visit your veterinarian for a check-up and a diet consult.

What is a healthy and realistic ammount of weight to lose in one week?
Q. ... For someone who just started eating WAY healthier and doing at least 30 minutes of cardio 5 days a week. I have been on my diet/exercise regime for about 2 weeks and have lost 7lbs. Does that sound about right? And also, what is a healthy time frame for someone to expect to lose a total of 30-35lbs?
Asked by Proud Mama of 1! - Tue May 4 16:10:13 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. For the first two weeks that sounds pretty good. Since you're changing your eating habits and incorporating exercise into your weekly routine, you'll likely lose more weight in the very beginning. Once your body starts adjusting to this new lifestyle, I would expect to lose about 1 to 2 pounds a week. That's really all you want to lose a week in order to ensure you keep the weight off. I would guess that you'd be able to lose 30-35 lbs in about 20 weeks if you keep up with things. Also beware of plateauing. Somewhere along the line you will, it happens to all of us. Just try to change up your routine and be sure to do some light weight training or resistance training in order to build lean muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat, but… [cont.]

[: Try to get more biotin and folic acid and of course, B vitamins. but do not take pre-Natal vitamins. they can make you very sick unless you are preggo. Otherwise, get vitamins especially for hair. I take GNC's Women's Hair, SKin, and Nails.

A. Green tea originated in China over four thousand years ago before being brought to Japan in the 6th Century. Green tea is made with unoxidized leaves from the Camellia sinensis plant that is hand or machine picked, dried to remove moisture and then shaped by rolling or twisting depending on the final appearance desired. Since Green Tea goes through less processing than other varieties of tea, it has a higher EGCG level. EGCG is a catechin, which helps protect the body from harmful free radicals. In recent years, many of the legendary medicinal benefits of tea have been supported by the scientific community, making Green tea a more popular beverage than ever. A. Wow - there is so much you can do to toss it up. Turkey and other fish like trout are great. Lean cuts of beef cut in strips and tossed with some grilled veggies. Buy 4-5 different veggies like peppers, zucchini, onion, tomato and toss on a grill with a little garlic powder (or other favourites - not too much salt). Add some low fat cheese and try making chicken/turkey wraps (like McDonald's, just healthier)
