A trend is a line of general direction of movement, a prevailing tendency of inclination, a style or preference, a line of development, or the general movement over time of a statistically detectable change. In a few words, "trend" is a synonym to "tendency". A fad is a practice or interest followed for a time with exaggerated zeal. The nature of fad is individual. It could be called as an individual/individual society's over interest in some thing which is considered to have consist of some virtue i.e. fad diet, exercise etc. The benefit of something considered as fad may not have been scientifically verified or it may lack the rational proof. A craze is a product, idea, cultural movement, propensity or model that gains popularity among a small section of the populace then quickly migrates to the mainstream. Crazes are characterized by their lightning fast adoption and swift departure from public awareness. Being of temporary nature is one of the major characteristics of craze. Crazes and fads are also characterized by their unusually high interest and sales figures relative to the time they are active in the marketplace, as compared with other similar products, ideas, cultural movements or models. Q. While the teabag parties certainly did not have the longevity of past crazes such as slap bracelets, koosh balls, Tamagotchi and Sudoku, they inspired a passion among their fans, 'teabaggers,' similar to that seen during the Pokemon, pogs, Tickle-Me-Elmo and Beanie Baby fads. As the nation moves on to a new 'flavor of the month,' where do the teabag rallies rank when compared to other fads of the past? They will fade into obscurity when a republican is in the white house. They will ignore his rampant spending and the next time a democrat gets elected there will be a resurgence under some new guise. They just do what their pundits command basically. Answered by Tenchiro - Fri Sep 25 10:22:51 2009 What were the fads as a teen in the 1970s?
Q. What bands/music was most popular? How did you listen to the music? Were there any major brands (fashion-wise)? Were there any toys, gadgets, etc that came around that time that were instantly popular? Basically, I'm after a quick run down of popular culture in the 1970s. Huge thanks in advance. Other big bands included Steely Dan, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers, Linda Ronstadt, The Eagles, Elton John, Led Zeppelin. Music at that time was still mostly listened to on albums and radio. AM music stations, which have since virtually disappeared because they have poor sound quality, were very popular at that time. Hair was still generally worn long, sixties style. Bell bottoms also were still popular. One fad of the 70s I remember was platform shoes, with soles 3 or 4 inches thick from the toe to the heel. Some popular brands of the time were Tower Records, The Gap, and Atari.
