What are some other wars/conflicts similar to the Boxer Rebellion?
Q. I'm doing a project for my history class, and any rebellions, wars, conflicts, ect. and some information on them would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

A. The Taiping Rebellion took place around the same time and also in China. It was less of a full-out revolt and more like one insane man fighting the government. I believe it took place shortly after the British began gaining influence in China, and those leading the rebellion were bothered by the outsiders. Might be interesting to compare the two in your paper.

Are there any wars/conflicts in world history were there are more than 2 opposing sides?
Q. In America Revolution there's the American vs British. In WW2 there's the Allies vs the Axis. In the Civil War there's the Union vs the Confederates. Are there any conflicts in world history where there are more than 2 protagonists battling each other, like Group A vs Group B and Group B vs Group C and Group C vs Group A?

What is the one common denominator in all of the worlds conflicts (wars \ battles) right now?
Q. It was recently reported there are 14 conflicts on the planet right now. There are probably more but these are defined as conflicts between nations or involving border disputes or how people are governed within a border. There is one common denominator (sp) in all 14 of these conflicts. Anyone care to identify it - and you have to be specific - the answer is one word. LOL some of the answers are really shocking. Someone said there are more then a 100 conflicts and that would be true if you counted internal conflicts not between nations. This was about conflicts between nations \ borders etc. The answer is Islam. Islamic extremist was a good answer but I said one word, and some of those at war over how other Islamic people are… [cont.]

CNN helps to aggravate wars and conflicts. How can they be showing other ways that Israel can be attacked?
Q. i believe that CNN desires the news above all. I just saw a special coverage showing other sources through which Israel can be attacked. Since the conflict stated, we have not heard news of attacks from such sources, now they have it on air.

A. I think I know what you mean... The news media seems to think it exists in a vacuum. Don't they know that the terrorists are listening to them??? Since 9-11, it seems like every day CNN or some other news-parrots tell us and the whole world about new targets or strategies the terrorists might use. Thanks a lot, news media. If you must spend your time planning the terrorists' strategy, at least have the decency to keep it to yourself.

Asked by samara - Thu Jan 11 18:24:32 2007 - - 0 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Maybe nobody deserves wars and struggle, but it is a hard fact that struggle, war, and conflict is largely what life is all about. Wars, conflicts over religion, territory, etc. have been in human societies ever since the dawn of civilization. I think it is because we are such an intelligent species that we act so ignorant of others' cultures, beliefs, and rights so often. I don't really think there will ever be a day without war, as that is not human nature, but I do believe that we are working toward a more tolerant society which will someday only declare war if absolutely necessary. That said, hopefully someday we will also have a president who keeps us out of wars which are none of our business.

Are all these wars and conflicts necessary?
Q. Are they not really the results of pride(better/stronger than you), greed (for other folks things) or just plain ol stupidity. We have more conflicts worldover in 10 years than we've had in the previous 100...and we have not experienced real peace. Why?
Asked by markfeelgood - Fri Feb 9 08:51:48 2007 - - 6 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Wars are often necessary, and the earlier one confronts aggressors, the more peaceful the world will be. Let's look at history, rife with examples. In the 1930's, all the European powers were so wedded to a peace-at-any-price philosophy that they ignored actions by aggressors. When Hitler rearmed Germany, they did nothing. When Hitler re-occupied the Rhineland, they did nothing. When Hitler started the operations against Jews, they did nothing. When Hitler annexed Austria, they did nothing. When Hitler demanded the Czech Sudatenland, they gleefully sold out Czechoslovakia, in return for the illusion of peace. Even Poland joyfully took a chunk of Czechoslovakia. Chamberlain proclaimed this action brought peace. All the while, Churchill… [cont.]

What are some current/recent wars/conflicts for students to research?
Q. So here's the deal. I am a math instructor and I am assigning the class a semester project. Since this particular course is an intro course, I know that most of these students aren't all that interested in math. My plan is to incorporate current (or at least fairly recent) events into the project. I am going to have each group do a presentation on an event and have them figure out a bunch of statistics and math figures/models as part of their presentation. At the end, based on the data they made and found, there will be a few reflection questions about what these numbers mean for the families affected and what does it say about their future, etc etc. Here are some places that I have thought would be interesting and has plenty of… [cont.]

A. British and French merchants made a tidy profit selling arms and ammunition to the Confederacy in the American Civil War, and the Dutch turned a tidy profit supplying American colonials with gunpowder and other necessities of war during the American revolution. However, these European businessmen did not instigate or agitate for these wars. Perhaps the German involvement in the Spanish Civil War of ~1936-37 would fit your question. Hitler supported the fascist dictator Franco while the Russians supported the left wing opponents. Russia and China certainly supported the North Koreans and later the North Vietnamese against America in the Korean and Vietnam Wars - though they did not make a profit doing so. America supported Saddam… [cont.]

How many wars and conflicts?
Q. do you think were indirectly caused or influenced by women, since wars are generally started by the elite minorities in all countries which are made up of men and women. I find it hard to believe, even if women could not gain power by challenging men directly for positions of leadership, they still would have wanted power themselves and had their own agendas. A. besides queen Elizabeth, i can't think of anything off the top of my head, and she was defending herself against Spain, but the claim that women indirectly start wars is false, and cannot be proven. i think back to a time when the only woman in congress voted against world war two, and she was the only one, Jeannette Rankin. in conclusion, you need alittle bit more proof to back yourself up than just angry rants.

A. The Mongols were defeated several times. They had an established empire, but their tactics were still those of nomads. Here's one: "In 1223, after defeating Russian and Kipchak armies at the Battle of Kalka, a Mongol army under the generals Subutai and Jebe was sent to subdue Volga Bulgaria. At that point in history Genghis Khan's troops were seen as invincible. However in 1223, the Bulgars defeated the Mongols. An army led by the Bulgar iltaebaer (king) Ghabdulla Chelbir and including the armies of Mordvin princes or inaezors Puresh and Purgaz defeated Genghis Khan's forces in 1223 near Samara Bend, one of the first defeat of the Mongols."

Wars of religion versus others?
Q. Ive read a few comments which basically say that religion is and has been a major source of war/conflict between people/communites etc. However, many wars begin and continue with no religious motive behind them. Whether or not any war is justified do you think that either of these types of war would be preferable and what are your thoughts on religious wars vs non religious wars. Ps: I realise that its pushing it a bit to say religious war because the religion may not actually be agreable with what people are justifying.
