What were major events that happened in China in the 1960s?
Q. please can anyone tell me any book titles (preferred) or maybe sites with information on 1960s China? or maybe list a few key points to get me started on researching? please and thank you politically and socially?

A. The 60s in China began with the end of the Great Leap Forward, which lasted from 58-61. During the GLF, Mao had wanted to push the agricultural sector into full collectivization and also push industry at the local level. It was a dismal failure and resulted in the death of tens of millions. There was a great book about the times called Hungry Ghosts by Jasper Becker. At around this time (62), China and India also had a war/border skirmish. China routed the Indians. In 61/62 Mao took responsibility for the failures of the GLF and decided to step away from politics for a while. During this period Liu Shaoqi and Deng Xiaoping took over the reigns of the government and started reforming the economy so it would have working markets --… [cont.]
