Q. What was the style of performers in the late 1950s (clothes, hair, instruments, movement on stage, rhythm etc) and what was it in the early 1960s? i have been trying to find out this information fof hours! all answers are greatly appreciated. thank you!
Asked by noo noo - Mon Jun 23 15:02:39 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The answer depends on the kinds of performers you are interested in. Rock 'n Roll was at its peak, so I suggest you look at Elvis and others who were the leaders of this type of music. Leather jackets, greased-back hair, guitars, bass, drums. Before Elvis, people didn't move much on the stage--which is why his sexy pelvic moves were so controversial.

A. Early 1960s (1960-1964): Chubby Checker ("The Twist"), Elvis Presley's musical styles transition from the crude rebellious sounds of rock n'roll to that of pop rock and soft rock tunes. Roy Orbison ("Pretty Woman") 1964: The Beatles perform for the first time in the United States on the Ed Sullivan Show. Millions of people worldwide instanty begin to obsess over the Beatles and their music, which would resume well into the continuation of the 60s and even decades after their dissolution. The commercial successes relating to the Ed Sullivan show appearance persuades other British musicians to try to make it in North America, thus sparking the British Invasion. 1964-early 1966: The British Invasion thrives; British Invasion styles range from… [cont.]

A. Around the start of the 1930's, the economy wasn't very good and many people lost their jobs or were laid off. They could barely make ends meet. The cost of living have gone up immensely which made poorer families suffer terribly. Also you could take about the styles of clothing that they wore in the 1930's compared to thte 1960's.

A. Other than Autochrome photos, practically all photos prior to the 1930s were black and white. True black and white film and commercial processing is getting hard to find at the amateur level. Try to find chromogenic "black and white" film that gets developed with C-41 chemicals. The color characteristics of color film has changed a _LOT_ since Kodacolor, Kodachrome, and Ektachrome were introduced starting in the 1930s. Kodachrome and Ektachrome currently available probably come closest to the color characteristics of the stuff 40+ years ago. But that's slide film, so you're going to do scanning to get reprints or pay somebody big bucks to do it for you... A. Events 1960's The 60's were a decade once again dominated by a war ( VIETNAM )not a world war but the effects were still felt throughout the world. It is also the start of showing how the people can effect politics through the power of "peaceful" demonstrations , students were the driving force because with education comes empowerment and with empowerment comes a voice , and in the 60's students learnt how to use that voice. In the West although politicians would have liked to stopped demonstrations ( and tried ) against their policies, due to "freedom of speech" it was not possible Many of the conflicts during the 60's could be considered to be part of the ongoing cold war between the East and the West ( Communism -- Capitalism )… [cont.]

What affect did Catholic Church's decisions in late 1960s have on social change, politics, economics?
Q. Full Question: What were the historical and institutional grounds for the Catholic Church's decision in the late 1960s to take a more active stand in support of profound political, economic, and social change? Why was this decision so controversial? And why does it continue to be so influential?

A. Specifics will depend on which of the world's countries you are speaking. The Church is primarily a spiritual body but she is also a moral teacher. If people are going to make moral issues into political ones then they should not complain when the Church uses her freedoms of speech and religion. When you look at the 1.1 billion believers worshiping in over 200,000 parishes worldwide you can see that the Catholic Church is a spiritual entity. However the Church is also a moral teacher and has been teaching the world what she believes God thinks is right and wrong for almost 2,000 years. The Church looks to protect human dignity and human rights and does not for look for political power. Church leaders are barred from political office… [cont.]

Asked by Terri - Thu Jul 16 10:58:30 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The Civil Rights Movement kind of ebbed and flowed. For example, in 1957, Little Rock High School was desegregated, which allowed 9 African-American students to attend; however, the students were constantly harassed, and when they went to school their first day, they needed the National Guard there to protect them. There were the Freedom Rides of 1961, which led to Kennedy ordering the Interstate Commerce Commission to issue a new desegregation act; however, those participating in the sit-ins were harassed and arrested (at least some of them.) However, by the end of the 1960s, the Civil Rights Movement had definitely progressed. African-Americans registered to vote; Mississippi universities were integrated; affirmative action was enforced… [cont.]

A. You don't have to have to have been born then to know key differences. Some main ones are disposable diapers were not around yet. They mostly had cloth and you had to hand wash them or pay for a diaper service. Car seats were not enforced or even available at that time. Heck some cars still did not have rear seat belts! Mom more ofter were stay at home moms. That was the norm and it was very unusual for a mom to be a working mother. Also unwed mother were looked down upon and even sent away to have their child. At times they were forced to give the baby up for adoption. Sure single moms have it hard now but at least child support is enforced! Is the next decade going to be the new 1960s?
Q. There are strong social and political changes coming in the world and there are strong forces opposing those changes. In many ways, that's similar to the history of the 1960s, a turbulent time that led to a pretty strong series of changes in America as it leapt towards modern life. The '60s ended 40 years ago. Are we now seeing a new era of revolution on a similar scale? What do you think will happen?

A. Not too much has really changed... the only thing that happened was the RACISTS were sort of driven undergroung... until the past few months.. when all the racists have become republicans if they were not ALREADY card carrying republicans... It seems the republicans are welcoming and embracing all the whatck jobs and the tin foil hat wearers and the drooling morons who heretofore were known as the silent majority. AND.. they are being LED by the whack jobs in chielfs... people like limbaugh (the official racist hate garbage spewer) and glen beck and the other race baiters at the fixed news network which is the official cable channel of the republican party... also known as the party of no and the party of hate.

Approximately how much did it cost to stay in a nice hotel in the 1960s?
Q. I'm researching things from the 1960s for a story I'm writing.
Asked by Rebecca O - Tue May 12 22:07:02 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Depends on where hotel is located. By the early 70's I remember a very nice hotel in New Orleans was around $125.00 a night. (That particular hotel is now $400.)The big New York hotels would probably have been more than $125.00. An idea: pick a city for your story, look on the internet for the nicest hotel and call the 800 number for the hotel. Tell you're writing a story that you would like to take place in their hotel. Could they tell you how much a room in their hotel would have been in the 60's? I'll bet they'd make a stab at it.
